Subject outline
This subject provides students with a practical introduction to the role played by archaeology in the heritage industry. Students are introduced to the conceptual and procedural skills required to work effectively as a professional archaeologist. Students will review the development of cultural heritage management, the main provisions of legislation and policy relating to archaeology in Australia, and the role and responsibilities of Indigenous communities, government departments and other stake-holders. Students will develop skills in preparing Cultural Heritage Management Plans and will consider ethical and OHS issues of the archaeological workplace.
