Subject outline
In this subject, students will develop the clinical and practical skills to provide a range of transtibial prostheses. Students will apply knowledge and skills in the assessment, casting, fabrications, alignment and evaluation of transtibial prostheses. Students are required to complete projects addressing the assessment, prescription, fabrication and prosthetic management of clients with transtibial amputations. Within this subject, students will apply prosthetic theory, patient assessment skills, anatomy, pathology and biomechanics relevant to transtibial prosthetic management. Students are required to demonstrate effective communication skills with clients and colleagues.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes
01. Compose information obtained from the subjective and objective assessment of a volunteer client into the prescription and fabrication of clinically realistic prostheses.

- Client assessment, casting, fabrication and fitting of transtibial prostheses
02. Integrate findings from volunteer client assessment to produce a justified, viable and reasonable request for the provision of a prostheses for a client with a transtibial amputation.

03. Create and evaluate plaster cast impressions of transtibial limb remnants that are suitable to be used for the fabrication of comfortable, functional, weight bearing clinically realistic transtibial prostheses.

04. Integrate client assessment to fabricate clinically realistic transtibial prostheses with bench alignments that are consistent with amputees needs, are safe to manufacture and use and are suitable for the fitting and alignment process.

05. Evaluate fit and function of clinically realistic transtibial prosthetic limbs to achieve a well-fitting and functional prosthetic outcome utilising gait analysis, outcome measures and systematic evaluation consistent with clinical practice.
