This subject introduces some of the central problems that have captivated philosophers throughout millennia, as well as those that scientific advances and cultural changes have only recently brought to our attention. It is divided into three parts: In Part 1 Who Am I? we examine questions about the nature of the self, including: How can I be identical to my past selves? Do we have free will? What is the relationship between the mind and the body? Can a machine be conscious? In Part 2 What Do I Know? we examine questions about knowledge, including: Is it possible for one's religious and moral beliefs to constitute knowledge when other individuals and cultures disagree with these beliefs? What is knowledge exactly? Do sceptical arguments show us that we have no knowledge at all? Finally, in Part 3 What do we owe to others? we examine questions about morality, including: What makes an action moral or immoral? What are our moral obligations to other people, animals, and the environment?
