NURSING: HEALTH PRIORITIES B
NSG2HPB
2017
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In Health Priorities B you will have the opportunity to extend your knowledge and skills gained in NSG2HPA and/or to build upon your professional acumen as an Enrolled Nurse in the BN program. The material presented in this subject also compliments the skills and knowledge developed in NSG2ANB. Through lectures, online activities, workshops, and clinical skills laboratories you will explore the aetiology and pathophysiology, diagnostics and pharmacology of disorders of the renal, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, haematological systems and chronic pain. Particular emphasis will be placed on acute exacerbation of chronic disease including the National Health Priority areas of arthritis, osteoporosis, back pain, bowel and prostate cancer. There is a particular emphasis on the assessment of these diseases and the patient centred nursing management thereof. Understanding of these diseases and their management will be facilitated via the Clinical Reasoning Cycle and the expectation is that students will apply themselves to conceptual mastery, rather than to rote learning.
