PHOTOGRAPHY: THE CONSTRUCTED IMAGE 2

VPA2CI2

2016

Credit points: 30

Subject outline

Constructed Image 2 is extends the exploration of the use of a controllable space as a physical site for image making through photographic means. Building on pre-requisite studies, CI2 extends studio techniques and deepens theoretical research into relevant contemporary photographic practice. Theoretical research is undertaken to investigate the nature of meaning and representation in imagery. The proposition to be investigated is that photography is at minimum, a mediated reality. Students interact with, and create ways to control, represent, and reflect on their mediated reality. Practical assignment work and folio production are supported in digital, analogue and hybrid modes. Students are encouraged to participate in regular group gallery visits to Melbourne to reflect on how their work is contextualised in the contemporary art field. A DSLR camera is required. VPA2CI1 is a pre-requisite for this subject.
