Subject outline

This interdisciplinary study builds on the diverse contemporary and historical practices in art and design studied in VPA1VC1. This subject encourages students to develop informed and critical understandings of the historical, cultural and theoretical context for art and design and to articulate and analyse complex issues that create connections to their studio practice. The content introduces students to the essential themes in International Post Modernism and its historic artistic rejection of Modernism, including art and popular culture, feminism/sexuality/gender, Post Modern design and the built environment, representation and the hypereal, land and ecology, consumerism and the museum/site specific space.
