In this subject students combine the further development of language skills through a variety of activities, with the study of aspects of Spanish and Latin American cultural and literary texts. Grammatical study is complemented by advanced practical oral work.

03. Writing: Ability to produce a clear, detailed text on a reasonable range of subjects. Ability to synthesise in writing various ideas on a cultural subject and to formulate an argument of your own about them.

- Writing up notes following your classes. Practice writing exercises exchanged for correction by other students in class. Focusing on grammatical accuracy. Writing practice answers to possible essay topics.

04. Inquiry and research, critical thinking: Ability to explain a view point on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. Ability to undertake extensive research in Spanish for your essay and to understand and analyse a variety of scholarly articles you will encounter.

06. In-depth analysis, critique and elucidation of the different South American socio-cultural reality presented in the novel studied. Being able to resolve situations of tension created in class by other students' different reactions to the novel's actions.

- Reading the novel, pondering its puzzling situation, and discussing it in detail in the seminars: learning to evaluate the moral and social code of conduct it presents; learning to accept a different world view, increasing your tolerance for cultural difference by comparing your reactions with other students'.
