Subject outline
Research Project in Psychology A is a capstone subject, the function of which is to develop entrepreneurial thinking. A topic exemplifying one of the School's research areas is the focus for these activities. Students gain experience in designing a research study, applying for ethics approval and acquiring funding to conduct the study. They develop team-work skills and skills in communicating using contemporary technologies. Relevant themes in psychology are covered, as well as ethical issues relevant to the conduct of scientific research. Practical experience with tasks contributing to assessment activities is provided in tutorials, and themes introduced in project group seminars are expanded in online self-guided learning activities. PSY3RPA addresses La Trobe's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential, which includes the capacity to apply theory, locate and synthesize knowledge resources, prioritize action and manage associated risks, as well as the ability to effectively communicate while collaboratively and creatively resolving complex social problems.

Prerequisites (One of PSY1EFP or PSY1PYA) and (One of PSY1CFP or PSY1PYB) and PSY1HPM and PSY2PRM. Enrolment in this unit is restricted. Admission into SHP or SBPS or SBBS or BVBBSW or SBPSW or SZPSOT or LWLBS or LWLPS or SBPSB or RBBS. Other students must obtain the approval of the subject coordinator prior to enrolment.

Planning in this case includes locating appropriate sources of funding and writing a compelling funding proposal, able to support entrepreneurial activities.
