Subject outline

In this subject students will extend concepts presented in Ocular Physiology and Vision Science. Students will be introduced to concepts in microbiology and its role in ocular pathology. Using an enquiry-based learning program, students will develop an understanding of infection, inflammation, developmental, congenital, genetic, degenerative, neoplastic, toxic, traumatic and vascular disorders and the progression of these ocular conditions in terms of the changes in the normal anatomy and/or physiology of the eye. This subject will equip students to progress to the opthalmic investigation, diagnosis and management subjects.

01. Clearly and coherently explain the effect a microbial infection can have on the eye and analyse the likely presenting signs and symptoms in order to differentially diagnose a condition.

02. Clearly and coherently explain the cause of an ocular condition and its effect on the normal anatomy and physiology of the eye to a patient and fellow practitioners using appropriate language and terminology.
