Subject outline
Legal Process, Methods and Institutions introduces students to the study of law, the core legal institutions and sources of law in the Australian legal system and legal practice. Students develop critical skills for legal work including case analysis, legal problem solving, legal research and written and oral communication. The subject examines what is law, places Australian law in both local and global contexts, and explores both adversarial and non-adversarial approaches to dispute resolution. Topics include indigenous law, the doctrine of precedent and legal reasoning, dispute resolution processes, ethical problem solving and the legal profession, and current problems of access to justice and human rights.
