Subject outline
In this subject students will focus on further developing their competence and confidence in the use of the current Australian-Modified version of the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM). They will develop skills in applying advanced clinical coding in a timely manner in a complex environment. Students will also achieve competencies in clinical coding auditing for internal data quality control and coding practice management.

01. Exhibit health classification skills in medical record interpretation and clinical abstraction in specialist and complex casemix environments.

02. Apply the standards and conventions of health classification within a timeframe that aligns with health industry expectations using clinical cases that reflect advanced-level complications and co-morbidities.

03. Apply and analyse internal clinical coding auditing processes to identify critical factors that impact upon the quality and reliability of coded data.
