Subject outline

In this subject students with high grades are provided with the opportunity to conduct detailed research on an approved topic within the broad field of International Development. Students are expected to undertake independent research, which will lead to the production of a 8,000-word research report in which the findings of their work are communicated in accordance with the requirements of formal academic work or as a piece of professional writing for a development agency.

Prerequisites Completion of 60 credit points within the Master of International Development (AMID/AMIDH/AMIDV) with 75% average and coordinator's approval.

02. Students will be able to demonstrate high level skills of analysis, evaluation and argument.

03. Students will be able to design and carry out a research project and show the ability to independently apply this learning to a proposed research project

Activities:
Students will work with the supervisor through a number of writings on research design.

04. Students will be able to identify relevant sources for a program of study and demonstrate high level competence in discerning relevance

Activities:
Face to face or internet meetings to discuss literature reviews and annotated bibliography. Discussion of how academics design reading lists.
