Subject outline

This unit does not form part of an APAC-accredited course of study and completion cannot be counted towards membership of the Australian Psychological Society or registration as a psychologist in Australia. In this unit students explore the interaction between health and various theories of learning, motivation and personality. Other areas to be covered include definitions and perceptions of health and illness, and how nutrition, group behaviour and psychopathology can directly and indirectly influence health and well being. The lecture series will also address physiological and psychological dependence and the ideas and approaches of compliance or concordance in health care provision, particularly as they apply to medicines taking. Through practical demonstrations, role play and formal assessment students will have the opportunity to develop written and oral communication skills.
