Subject outline

This unit is a natural sequel to PHY1LSA, but may be taken independently. It is an introduction to classical and modern physics useful for students in biological and animal sciences. The classical elements are forces, motion, fluids, heat, electricity and magnetism. Elements of modern physics such as special relativity, and quantum mechanics, are discussed. Students apply their knowledge of these elements in online quizzes, problem classes and laboratory classes. On completion, students will have a basic understanding of the fundamental principles of physics. No previous study of physics is assumed and mathematical methods are limited to basic algebra.
