Subject outline
This year long subject has two sections. Sections 1: Students will focus on research procedures in qualitative and quantitative methods to extend their evidence-based practice knowledge and skills. Students will be introduced to the concept of evidence-based practice in occupational therapy and guided through the process of how to ask clinically relevant questions, search for the evidence and critically appraise published research. Section 2: Students will work in small groups on clinical questions identified in relation to a selected field in occupational therapy. Students will search and critically evaluate the literature to determine the evidence to answer a clinical question. Hurdle tasks will be used to guide the process from refining the search question to synthesising the results. Students will prepare a critical review of the literature in the form of reviews of papers and synthesis of evidence including consultation with expert clinicians.
