Subject outline

In this subject students will develop and interpret foundational knowledge related to the Breast Care Nurse (BCN) role. Students will critique and explore the ongoing development and definition of breast care nursing within national and international contexts. Theoretical frameworks will be examined and implementation of health promotional strategies in the clinical setting, using a health promotional framework, will further define the BCN role. Culturally specific strategies to be implemented when caring for indigenous and rural women, and their families, and those whose first language is not English, will be devised. Ethical issues encountered in breast care nursing will be explored and self-reflective processes will be encouraged to establish the student's own structured support needs, as well as, the support and networking needs of BCNs in their particular region.
