Subject outline
Mental health nursing occurs within a complex cultural, legal and policy framework. To work effectively as a mental health nurse there must be recognition of the unique perspective of consumers and family members and incorporation of this understanding into clinical practice. Professional practice also requires the mental health nurse to develop skills in reflection and utilize clinical supervision as a routine part of professional development. In this unit students will be introduced to the legal, ethical and organizational context of practice with an emphasis on the perspective of consumers and carers.
