This subject is an introduction to the fundamental knowledge and skills required for person-centred nursing practice. Through lectures, online activities, workshops, clinical skills laboratories and a clinical placement you will develop understanding of the principles of nursing health assessments and the clinical reasoning cycle across the lifespan. This will enable you to plan and provide basic nursing care for any person, in any context and location. The clinical practicum will allow you to integrate theoretical principles to basic nursing practice. To achieve the learning outcomes of this subject you will be expected to complete a range of written, verbal and clinical assessments within a 12-week period.

Prerequisites Students must be enrolled in one of the following courses: HBN, HBNM, HBNUP, HBNPRW, RBN - Bachelor of Nursing, HZNM, HZNMD - Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery. All other regional students in the Faculty of Health Sciences undergraduate courses are permitted to enrol with school approval.
