Subject outline

This subject will address the emergence of a contemporary relationship between cinema and popular music. Popular music has achieved a status where it can represent a cultural milieu for many people. Today cinema will often deploy music in narratives and pop stars as subjects for films. You will address the way in which filmmakers are turning to music to underscore emotional and narrative structures in cinema. It will connect these developments to the rise of music 'film clips' and videos as vehicles for pop stars.
