Subject outline
Human beings maintain balance through a sophisticated mechanism involving several body systems. This subject will concentrate on the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral and central vestibular systems. The interaction between the vestibular, occulomotor and visual systems to maintain balance will be discussed. The basic knowledge gained in this subject will provide a platform for audiologists to understand the pathology of the vestibular system, as well as the basics for vestibular rehabiliation.
