Subject outline
The unit continually evolves with time to reflect the current developments in the field of radio-based communication systems, including cellular mobile telecommunications (3G & 4G), satellite, global positioning systems and radar. The topics include the mobile radio propagation environment and path loss models, cellular concepts, multiple access and division techniques, channel allocation, antenna design, software defined radio and communications systems management. After the successful completion of this unit, the student will gain systems knowledge of mobile radio communications and develop the ability to perform radio link calculations and performance assessment using industry standard hardware and software.
