ADVANCED TOPICS IN BIOCHEMISTRY AND CELL BIOLOGY

BCH3ATB

2014

Credit points: 15

Subject outline

Biochemistry and molecular biology is concerned with the function of biological systems at the molecular level. Biochemistry is central to most studies in biology and life sciences and is directly related to medical and agricultural research and biotechnology. In this unit students will extend previous knowledge gained from their biochemistry subjects related to membranes, cell signalling, proteins, bioinformatics, gene structure and function and relate them to a cellular biology context. In this semester, students study the molecular events of cell life and death, gene expression, molecular and cellular neuroscience, cell signalling, molecular aspects of cancer and immunology and applications of biochemistry.
