Subject outline

In this subject we will discuss critical issues related to development and globalisation, focusing on four themes - poverty, inequality, collective violence, and ecological degradation - from mainly, but not exclusively, anthropological perspectives. The primary questions addressed are: How effective are development policies and programs in solving the problems of poverty and inequality? How is development linked to collective violence? How is development related to ecological issues such as climate change? We will also explore alternative perspectives seeking to achieve social justice and sustainability.
