Stats that matter
Universities love their stats. These surveys give us an insight into who the average student is, what their study styles are, where they go and what sort of impression La Trobe made on them. These reports are used as a foundation for planning, curriculum development and resource allocation.
AUSSE — the Australasian Survey of Student Engagement
Student life has changed dramatically over the years. Long gone is the free education, tutes at the pub and lecturers with long sideburns and leather elbow patches on tweed jackets (well, nearly long gone…). So how does a University adapt to the changes and expectations of its students? By getting to know our students a little better…
Making the most of the first year experience
A positive experience in first year goes a long way in helping students succeed and feel part of the University community. For the student perspective on first year, take a look at the First Year Experience Survey 2007 Report.

Student evaluation of teaching
Research has shown that if students perceive that the goals and standards of a unit are not clear, and that the workload is too heavy they are likely to adopt approaches to study aimed at reproducing the material they are being taught, rather than trying to understand that material.
Quality assurance of units
The Student Unit Feedback Survey (SUFS) is the common University-wide instrument used for this purpose. A mandatory quality assurance of units process ensures that all units are reviewed systematically to allow for continued improvement in student learning at La Trobe. In addition to supporting improvement in student learning within the University, aggregated data from these surveys are published for the general public and Federal Government.
The Australian University Student Finance Study
Almost half of undergraduate students are surviving on less than $10,000 a year, according to the report which found students are struggling to balance study while earning an income and paying for the bare essentials.
