Student Engagement Advisory Committee (SEAC)
A University wide student engagement committee is being formed to take leadership on issues and opportunities impacting on the student experience. Chaired by Dr Kerry Ferguson, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Equity and Student Services) and including representatives from all faculties, campuses, student organisations and departments, the committee will be contributing to a whole of University dialogue and approach to student engagement and provide support and guidance on key programs and initiatives.
The terms of reference include:
- To advise on the definition and scope of student engagement and strategies appropriate for La Trobe University by
- Identifying and capturing existing activities and programs undertaken by students within the University
- Identifying areas of need (e.g. first year transition initiatives) and steering and implementation requirements
- To determine the most effective ways to improve the student experience through
- strategies optimising students’ level of engagement with the University, outside of the academic experience
- initiatives designed to improve the student experience and engagement with their learning
- To promote the benefit of improved student engagement within campuses, faculties, departments and units and provide recommendations to the University community through key committees (e.g. Academic Board, Senior Management Committee) on student engagement issues
- To support and contribute to the implementation of programs, services or actions that enhance student engagement and improve the student experience within campuses, faculties, departments and units
- To provide a forum for regular and ongoing information sharing and joint planning for student engagement and collaborative approaches
- To assume breadth of student engagement is a priority of the curriculum renewal process
