Information for Students

What is Student Engagement?

Student Engagement can mean many things. It can be as simple as the time staff take to help a student, or their ability to access appropriate resources and information from our website. It can also be more complex- student participation in learning activities, coping with first year, industry experience and community outreach.

An effective student engagement strategy will ensure that students have the opportunity to become exceptional learners, workers, alumni, citizens and fully engaged members of the university community.

Universities across Australia and overseas are recognising the importance of student engagement as the relationship between students and their studies change. As students spend more time off campus- in employment or with family responsibilities- and less time on campus, Universities are seeking new ways to connect students to the learning process and build a sense of citizenship within increasingly diverse student bodies.

La Trobe University's Office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Equity and Student Services has created a new division of Student Engagement. This webpage will help keep you up to date with projects and information relevant to creating a vibrant and positive student experience. If you are looking for an opportunity to get to know other students, develop new skills participate in community activities or just get involved, check out the list below detailing just some of the current initiatives at La Trobe University, or email studentengagement@latrobe.edu.au for information.
