About fees (local students)
What is a Commonwealth Supported Place?
A Commonwealth Supported Place is a higher education placement where the Australian Government subsidises your fees. Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and Permanent Visa holders are eligible for Commonwealth Supported Places (conditions apply). The amount you pay is called your Student Contribution. Get more information about Commonwealth Supported Places.
What if I’m not eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place?
You may be eligible for a fee-paying place OR you may be eligible for FEE-HELP - a loan for students who are not Commonwealth supported. Get more information about FEE-HELP.
How can I pay my Student Contribution?
You can do one of the following:
- pay the amount up-front or make a partial payment ($500 or more) and receive a discount on the amount paid (conditions apply)
- defer your Student Contribution by taking out a HECS-HELP loan (conditions apply)
Get more information about your Student Contribution.
What is HECS-HELP?
If you are an Australian citizen or have a permanent humanitarian visa you can defer your Student Contribution using HECS-HELP. You repay it later through the taxation system once you start earning a certain amount. Get more information about HECS-HELP.
Please note: most postgraduate courses at the University are full-fee places.
Do I need a Tax File Number?
You must have a Tax File Number if you want to defer your Student Contribution via HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP. To apply for a Tax File Number visit the Australian Tax Office.
How can I calculate how much I will pay for my course or subject?
You can calculate your course and subject fees using our fee calculator.
What is a Census Date?
A Census Date is the day on which you become financially liable for a subject. If you withdraw from a subject after the Census Date you must still pay for the subject. The Census Date for each subject you enrol in will be shown on your Statement of Account.
