Support services

First aid

The campus first aid room is located within the TAFE in the under-croft, near the lift. Every teaching department has a first aid kit. In the case of illness or accident the first point of contact should be the Campus Office on 5051 4000.

Registered First Aiders are based on campus. Students are encouraged to become an Ambulance Association member. Staff are not permitted to transport students. Staff can contact relatives or friends to transport students home. Staff are not permitted to dispense drugs including analgesics such as Panadol or Aspirin.

Indigenous support

Support and guidance is available to students who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders. The Indigenous Student Services Officer can be contacted on (03) 5051 4021. Additional information on Indigenous student services and activities are available from the Office of the Director, Indigenous Education

Migrant Education Centre

The centre provides programs in English language tuition to adults from non-English speaking backgrounds who require skills in English as a Second Language (ESL). Classes are provided at various levels of tuition from Settlement (new arrivals) to Vocational and English for Further Education.

Security

Marshall Security Services provides security on campus. Security is available to provide assistance and/or guidance from classrooms to your vehicle after night classes.

Student Services Unit (SSU)

The Student Services Unit (SSU) provides free and confidential services to students and staff. The SSU aims to facilitate a positive learning environment for students and staff by providing support, information, resources, counselling and referral services which meet their individual needs.

Support to students

SSU staff provide information, support and/or referral on issues related to:

  • adjusting to study;
  • finances (youth allowance, austudy), assistance with budgeting;
  • accommodation;
  • personal health and welfare;
  • individual counselling;
  • academic and study skills;
  • grievance and/or conflict resolution;
  • integration assistance;
  • materials and resources for disability support;
  • choosing courses/subjects;
  • management of stress and exam anxiety;
  • tertiary admission applications;
  • scholarship information;
  • student loans

The SSU is located on the ground floor of the Residences Building and is open between 8.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am - 3.30pm on Fridays.

Study skills
