Accommodation

Residential accommodation: The Habitat

Set in a spacious garden setting, the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE's residential accommodation The Habitat was built in 1982 when the Institute's Mildura Campus was established. Conveniently located on campus, it provides accommodation for around 50 students. The Habitat is a 30 minute walk, or a 5 minute drive, from the city centre. A taxi service is available.

Student rooms

There are single and twin share study bedrooms available. Each student has their own bed (bedding needs to be supplied) desk, chair wardrobe, bedside drawers, bookshelf and pin-board. Students can bring their own TV set, computer and bar fridge. The rooms have air-conditioning and heating. Rooms are cleaned weekly by University cleaners.

Lounge and kitchen areas

Each unit has a communal kitchen and lounge/TV area. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, kettle and toaster. Students need to bring their own crockery and cutlery.

A phone which can receive incoming calls is located in each unit and two gold phones, located in the residential complex, are available for outgoing calls.

Bathroom and laundries

Each unit has several communal bathrooms with showers, basins and toilets. These are cleaned daily. The laundry has commercial washing machines and driers and is part of the residential complex. Students are expected to wash their own bedding.

Safety and security

Each unit is equipped with an emergency alarm, fire extinguishers, smoke and heat detectors, fire blanket and first aid kit. Evacuation and emergency drills are carried out twice a year.

Leisure facilities

The common room has a large TV and VCR. A table tennis table is also available. The Habitat is set in a spacious garden setting and a gas barbecue is provided. The campus also has a large oval for recreational activities.

Other services

A library, computer facilities, canteen, bookshop and childcare centre are available on campus. The Student Services Unit provides personal, financial and careers counselling, while a Disability Liaison Officer and Study Skills co-ordinator are also available to assist students.

Disabled access

One of the units is fitted with a disabled bathroom and is designed for wheelchair access, as is the campus.

General information

A secured car compound is available for student use.

Students may be required to vacate their rooms during term breaks to allow occupancy by sporting or business organisations.

Room retention rates are available for students wishing to vacate their rooms during term breaks, work placements or excursions.
