Health Sciences
Academic Language and Learning (ALL) staff for the Faculty Health Science are located in the Faculty area in Bundoora and in the ALL Unit area in other campuses.
ALLU staff work closely with teaching staff to develop the academic speaking, writing, reading, and numeracy skills required for successful learning for students. To achieve those ends, the ALL Unit staff provide workshops and advise students on learning strategies. They provide student consultations based on referrals from teaching staff. They also teach/co-teach in undergraduate and postgraduate subjects.
Student Learning Support.
ALLU Individual consultations and group workshops can be arranged if you have a concern about your studies. The sorts of concerns include: meeting the requirements of an assessment task, reading difficult texts, academic writing, how and what to reference, speaking in class and communicating in clinical placements.
Individual consultations for all students require a referral from the subject coordinator/lecturer/tutor or the thesis supervisor, as appropriate for the first consultation.
On the Melbourne campus, you don’t need a referral for a small group session. So get a group together and request a workshop from the ALL Unit to deal with your concerns. The 1 hour workshop will be tailored to your group’s needs.
