Health Sciences
We work closely with teaching staff to develop the academic speaking, writing, reading, and numeracy skills required for successful learning for students. To achieve those ends, we provide workshops and advise students on learning strategies. We also provide student consultations based on referrals from teaching staff, and teach/co-teach in undergraduate and postgraduate subjects.
Student Learning Support
Individual consultations and group workshops can be arranged if you have a concern about your studies, such as:
- meeting the requirements of an assessment task
- reading difficult texts
- academic writing
- how and what to reference
- speaking in class
- communicating in clinical placements.
Individual consultations require a referral from the subject coordinator/lecturer/tutor or the thesis supervisor, as appropriate for the first consultation.
At the Melbourne campus, you don’t need a referral for a small group session, so get a group together and request a workshop from the ALL Unit to deal with your concerns. The one-hour workshop will be tailored to your group’s needs.
Learning Resources
For an electronic resource that answers many of your questions about studying, reading, writing, and speaking for your subjects, see the Survival Guide [PDF 1MB]. (If you would this document made available in an alternate format please contact Julianne East: j.east@latrobe.edu.au).
