Smart Skills program
Smart Skills is an intensive program preparing you for university study and increasing your chances of success. It is offered in the week before O-Week and you can choose to do the three-day program (Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd February) or if you unable to come to the day program, you can come to the shorter evening program (Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th February). Smart Skills will give you a head start.
To register and pay, complete and submit the Smart Skills Program registration form [DOC 66KB].
What Smart Skills covers
- note-taking from lectures and written texts
- planning, structuring and writing academic texts
- critical thinking and analytical writing
- referencing and plagiarism
- using the library
- accessing the range of student services.
Orientation Week
If you have been unable to take part in the Smart Skills program – or even if you have completed Smart Skills and want to reinforce some of the important points – come along to the academic skills sessions in O-Week. See the full Bendigo O-Week program.
Study sessions during O-Week
Come along to these sessions and get a head start before classes begin.
Tuesday, Feb 26
- Power note taking 2-3 pm
- Writing assignments 3-4 pm
- Referencing 4-5 pm
Wednesday, Feb 27
- Power note taking 1-2 pm
- Writing assignments 2-3 pm
- Referencing 3-4 pm
Thursday, Feb 28
- Power note taking 12-1 pm
- Writing assignments 1-2 pm
- Referencing 2-3 pm

The La Trobe Tertiary Enabling Program (TEP)
If you would like to study at University in 2014 and have neither the confidence nor the skills to make the move, enrol in the Tertiary Enabling Program in second semester. This program is free, runs for eighteen weeks and covers four key subject areas that will give you:
- academic skills and confidence
- the ability to make decisions about future study
- a pathway to future education.
