Seeking academic assistance at university

student under supervision

Open Access

The ALLU staff are available Monday to Thursday between 3-4.45pm to assist students who wish to discuss their work.  Students should call in at the Student Services office to fill in a form to bring with them to the drop in session.  No advance booking is necessary.  Students should bring with them their subject guide, the question and the task they are working on.

One to one referrals

It is possible to have one to one time with an ALLU staff member.  There are several ways to arrange this.  Your lecturer can fill out an on-line referral form.
You can ask a lecturer or staff member who you are working with to make a referral to ALL.
You can go in person to the office in Student Services and ask for an appointment.  Or you can speak to us directly and we will help you make an appointment.

Student Learning Advisers (SLAs)

The SLAs are students who have first- hand experience of some of the challenges of studying.  They are selected and trained because they are successful students with a desire to help others.  They can often provide information to assist you to complete your work. SLAs work out of the library.  They have a desk just past the front desk.  They are there during the day and during weekends.    Sometimes they will need to refer you to other services or to ALL staff if the problem is complex.  Have a look at the SLA site on the library website.
