ALLU at AW

Academic Language and Learning Unit assistance for staff and students

Academic Language and Learning (ALL) staff at Albury/Wodonga campus work closely with teaching staff to develop the academic speaking, writing, reading, and numeracy skills required for successful learning for students. To achieve those ends, the ALL Unit staff provide workshops and advise students on learning strategies. They provide student consultations based on referrals from teaching staff. They also teach/co-teach in undergraduate and postgraduate subjects.

Support Services for Students

Seeking academic assistance at university

There are a number of ways of seeking assistance with academic issues. Questions can be asked of the lecturer /tutor at the end of a session, on the LMS or by email. Staff on the Albury-Wodonga campus have regular consultation times set aside for students. In addition Student Learning Assistants are located in all campus libraries. Student Learning Assistants are experienced and successful students who are employed by the Academic Language and Learning Unit to assist fellow students with study help. They are easy to identify in their red T shirts.

Students can also seek consultations with an ALL Unit lecturer in several ways:

  • By attending Open Access where no referral or appointment is required. Open Access occurs daily from 12:00 to 13:00 (during the teaching semester) at the Student Association meeting room in the Student Amenities Building, The Hangar.
  • By booking a Workshop on Request with two or more other students who share an academic issue. Booking forms are found on faculty noticeboards.
  • By referral for an individual consultation of 1-hour from a La Trobe staff member via the online Student Referral Form.
