Resources for staff
La Trobe University staff have a number of responsibilities in terms of academic integrity. The Academic Integrity Policy lists these; for example, academic staff are expected to:
- teach and conduct research and scholarship according to ethical standards, and
- to teach their students ethical learning, research and scholarship practices, in order to promote and maintain academic integrity by assisting students to be honest (Academic Integrity Policy, 2012, p. 1)
What can you do?
- In addition to varying topics for assessments between semesters and years, revisit your assessments to see if you can adjust the design to remove opportunities for plagiarism.
- See La Trobe University’s assessment policy for assessment requirements.
- Reinforce the written rules and guidelines you give to students with opportunities for discussion, examples and practice.
- Use some of the learning activities provided by the Academic Integrity Standards Project (AISP 2010 - 2012).
- Be inspired by the examples of good practice in Supporting academic integrity: approaches and resources for higher education (Written and compiled by Erica Morris, Academy JISC Academic Integrity Service).
- Try the 30 minute guide to reducing plagiarism from ASKe (Assessment Standards Knowledge exchange), Oxford Brookes University.
