About the ALLU

Meg and Students

The Academic Language and Learning (ALL) unit works closely with teaching staff in all Faculties and campuses to support La Trobe students to develop the high–level academic speaking, writing, reading, and numeracy skills required for successful learning.

To achieve those ends, the ALL Unit staff research and advise in the field of academic language and learning; provide workshops, drop- in sessions and individual consultations; teach/co-teach special undergraduate and postgraduate subjects; collaborate with academic staff on course and subject design; advise on teaching and learning strategies; and provide language and learning resources.

In addition, the ALLU organises the Student to Student Learning Advisor Initiative (SLA), the Introductory Academic Program for AusAid scholarship holders and is supporting the University's introduction of an early warning system (Succeed at La Trobe) for students needing assistance with continuing at university.

Association for language and learning
The ALL Unit at La Trobe is part of a national network through the Association for Academic Language and Learning.

The Association has a statement of the roles, values and objectives (PDF 150.24KB) in academic language and learning work.
