PebblePad is a web based program provided to all staff and students by La Trobe University to support the creation of a personal learning space (PLS) and eportfolios.
"A personal learning space supports users in the development of collecting, selecting, reflecting, interpreting, synthesising, evidencing, and presention skills by scaffolding the process of creating meaningful assets. These skills are life-long and life–wide"
PebblePad offers a number of different tools to allow students to plan their work, organise evidence of their learning and record and reflect on their study.
As of February 2013 , La Trobe is using PebblePad 3, the latest version of the software.

What can a Student do in PebblePad?
PebblePad has many uses but whilst they are at La Trobe its primary purpose will be for a student to collect and create evidence of their learning in the form of journals, blogs, webfolios, photos, documents, media files and links to external web sites from PebblePad. They can then use the different types of evidence to creatively build assets in PebblePad and submit these as assessment tasks as advised by their lecturer. Or these assets can be shared with prospective employers, professional associations, friends or anyone else.
The PebblePad space is password protected, all the work they do is private. When a student is ready to publish an asset they send it to a workspace that allows the teacher or peers to view and comment on what the student has released.
Simple assets that can be created in PebblePad include;
- Action plans
- Posts (journals)
More complex assets include;
These complex assets allow a student to gather the simple assets together and present their learning in a creative and progressive way.
