How do I register for the online utility?

  • You must register your La Trobe Staff or Student username with the online utility before you can use it to change your password.
  • You must already know your La Trobe Staff or Student password to successfully register. If you do not know your password, please contact the ICT Service Desk for assistance.
  • Your answers to the questions are case-sensitive. When resetting your password you must type your answers to the questions EXACTLY as they were typed when you registered them.
  • Answers must be provided for all three questions.
  • Successful registration will be confirmed both on-screen and with an email.
  • Ensure all browser windows are closed after registering.
  • Your answers to the questions can be changed by registering again.
  • There is no limit to the number of times you can register.

How do I reset my password in the online utility?

  • Your answers to the questions are case-sensitive. When resetting your password you must type your answers to the questions EXACTLY as they were typed when you registered them.
  • Answer your personal questions correctly and you will receive an on-screen and email confirmation that your password has been changed.
  • The answers to your personal questions are viewable as you type them - ensure the privacy of your screen when using this utility.
  • Close all browser windows after resetting your password.
  • Access to the online utility will be blocked after 2 unsuccessful attempts at answering the questions. Please contact the ICT Service Desk to remove the block.

How do I reset my password if I can't use the online utility?

Staff can contact the ICT Service Desk for assistance.

Students can contact Student IT Support for assistance.

What are the password complexity requirements?

For Staff, your password must:

  • Be a minimum of 8 characters.
  • Contain at least 3 of the 4 following types of characters:
    • Upper case (A, B, C, D, E ...)
    • Lower case (a, b, c, d, e ...)
    • Number (1, 2, 3, 4, ...)
    • Non alpha-numeric (!, @, #, $ ...)
  • Not be part of your name.

The previous 12 passwords are remembered and cannot be reused.

For Students, ICT strongly recommends you use secure passwords.

Why does my password keep expiring?

To ensure the security of your password, it is set to expire 90 days from when you last reset your password.

What services rely on my La Trobe account?

When you change or reset your password you are changing your password for all of the following systems. Once you have successfully changed your password you will need to use your new password to access these systems.
