Video calls

Use the directory to look-up and video call your colleagues.

Initiate a video call from your desktop or notebook computer

  1. Using the Find Someone field, search for the person you wish to start a video call with. You can search by full name, partial name or email address.
    Note: If you decided to share your mobile number when setting up your Office 365 profile your mobile number will be visible in your Skype contact card and your colleagues will be able to search for you by your mobile number. 
  2. Double-click the desired account in the search results.
  3. Click Video Call (video-camera icon).
  4. Click Start My Video.

Initiate a call from your mobile device

  1. Tap Search (magnifying-glass icon).
  2. Search for the person you wish to chat with. You can search by full name, partial name or email address.
    Note: If you decided to share your mobile number when setting up your Office 365 profile your mobile number will be visible in your Skype contact card and your colleagues will be able to search for you by your mobile number.
  3. Tap the desired account in the search results.
  4. Tap Video Call (video-camera icon).

Add another participant to a video call

Windows

  1. In the active Video Call window, click Invite More People (profile icon with plus-sign).
  2. search for the person you wish to add.
  3. Double-click the desired participant in the search results to add them to the call.

Mac OS

  1. In the active Video Call window, click More options (gear-wheel icon).
  2. Select Invite by Name or Phone Number.
  3. search for the person you wish to add to the video call.
  4. Double-click the desired participant in the search results to add them to the call.

Mobile devices

  1. In the active call, tap the three-dot menu.
  2. Select Invite.
  3. search for the person you wish to add.
  4. Tap the desired participant in the search results to add them to the call.

Can I call University staff?

No. You can look-up University staff Contact Cards using the global directory, however staff are currently using a different product, Cisco Jabber, for unified communications. Jabber does not communicate with Skype for Business and attempts to call staff will result in the following error:

Desktop clients: We couldn't reach Joe Bloggs.

Mobile devices: Your organization doesn't support calling this number.
