How do I access my email from a La Trobe computer?

Outlook Web Access (OWA)

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student email address and password.
  3. If you are using a private computer, tick Keep me signed in and your email address will be saved for future visits.
  4. Click Sign in.
  5. Under Collaborate with Office Online, click Outlook.

Microsoft Outlook

Windows

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Your email address will be automatically populated. If you have a pre 2013 account you will need to remove the automatic capitalisation of your username e.g. change JBloggs@students.latrobe.edu.au to jbloggs@students.latrobe.edu.au
  3. Click Next.
  4. When prompted for your username and password enter:
    • Username: Your La Trobe email address e.g. 01234567@students.latrobe.edu.au
    • Password: Your student account password.
  5. Click Finish.

Mac OS

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click Tools and select Accounts.
  3. Click Exchange or Office365.
  4. Enter your student email address in the Email Address field.
  5. Enter your student email address in the Username field.
  6. Enter your student account password.
  7. Click Add Account.
  8. Tick Always use my response for this server and click Allow.

How do I access my email from my personal computer?

You can access your student email via Outlook Web Access (OWA) or via Microsoft Outlook by downloading and installing Office Pro Plus.

Outlook Web Access (OWA)

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student email address and password.
  3. If you are using a private computer, tick Keep me signed in and your email address will be saved for future visits.
  4. Click Sign in.
  5. Under Collaborate with Office Online, click Outlook.

Microsoft Outlook

Windows

  1. Install Office Pro Plus. See How do I install Office Pro Plus on my personal computer (above).
  2. Open Outlook
  3. Click Next
  4. Select yes and click Next.
  5. Enter your Full Name.
  6. Enter your student email address e.g. 01234567@students.latrobe.edu.au.
  7. Enter and confirm your student account password.
  8. Click Next.
  9. If you are prompted for credentials, enter your student email address and student account password.
  10. Click Finish.

Mac OS

Note: Office Pro Plus for Mac is not compatible with OS X 10.10 Yosemite. Please see the steps for configuring Mac Mail below.

  1. Install Office Pro Plus. See How do I install Office Pro Plus on my personal computer (above).
  2. Click Go and select Applications.
  3. Double-click Microsoft Office 2011.
  4. Double-click Microsoft Outlook.
  5. Click Exchange Account.
  6. Enter your student email address e.g. 01234567@students.latrobe.edu.au in the E-mail address field.
  7. Enter your student email address e.g. 01234567@students.latrobe.edu.au in the User name field
  8. Enter your student account password int he password field.
  9. Click Add Account.
  10. Tick Always use my reponse for this server and clock Allow.
  11. Enter an account description e.g. La Trobe Email.
  12. Close the window and restart Outlook.

Mac Mail

    • If you already have a Mac Mail account for another email address configured, open Mac Mail and click Mail > Accounts > Add (plus-sign icon).
    • If you do not have an existing account configured, you will be prompted to add an account when you open Mac Mail for the first time.
  1. Click Exchange. If the Exchange account type is not available, you will need to either update your version of Mac Mail or use the Outlook web portal: http://outlook.office365.com
  2. Enter your Full Name.
  3. Enter your La Trobe student email address e.g. 01234567@students.latrobe.edu.au
  4. Enter your La Trobe student account password.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Select the apps you wish to synchronise and click Done.

How do I deactivate an installation of Office 365?

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student email address and password.
  3. If you are using a private computer, tick Keep me signed in and your email address will be saved for future visits.
  4. Click Sign in.
  5. Click Settings (gear-wheel icon).
  6. Click Office 365 settings.
  7. Click Software.
  8. Click Office.
  9. Locate the installation you wish to deactivate and click Deactivate.

How do I export my mailbox?

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click the File tab and select Open & Export.
  3. Click Import/Export.
  4. Select Export to a file and click Next.
  5. Select Outlook Data File (PST) and click Next.
  6. Highlight your name e.g. Joe Bloggs, ensure that Include subfolders is ticked and click Next.
  7. Click Browse.
  8. Select a location to save the file to and click OK.
  9. Click Finish.

How do I forward my student email to another email address?

La Trobe uses your student email as the primary method of contact for administrative matters via the official La Trobe University student email account. You may choose to forward your student emails to another e-mail address of your choice.

  1. Navigate to https://portal.office.com
  2. Enter your student email address and password.
  3. If you are using a private computer, tick Keep me signed in and your email address will be saved for future visits.
  4. Click Sign in.
  5. Under Collaborate with Office Online, click Outlook.
  6. Click Settings (gear-wheel icon) and select Options.
  7. Click Forward your email.
  8. Under forwarding, enter the email address you wish to forward your student email to and click start forwarding.

How do I import my mailbox?

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click the File tab and select Open & Export.
  3. Click Import/Export.
  4. Select Import from another program of file and click Next.
  5. Select Outlook Data File (PST) and click Next.
  6. Click Browse and locate the PST file your exported from your student copy of Office 365.
  7. Click Finish.

My account expires soon - Can I move my Outlook data to a personal install of Microsoft Office?

Yes you can. First you need to export your mailbox, then once you have installed a personal copy of Microsoft Office you can import your mailbox.
