A Wireless Local Area Network is a Network that uses radio waves instead of wires. Wireless access points connected to La Trobe University's network (view current campus availability) allows users to access the University's Intranet or, in some cases, the World Wide Web.
The preferred wireless network For La Trobe is LTUWireless2. Follow the appropriate guide below for your computer's operating system. You will need a “La Trobe account” and installed wireless hardware.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 - PEAP Hotfix required
After you install Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (or create an LTUWireless2 connection on a computer with Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed), you may experience problems authenticating successfully with your wireless connection. The initial connection may complete, but subsequent fast-connect authentication attempts may not complete effectively. This issue is related to Win XP SP2 working in conjunction with PEAP authentication.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 - WPA2 Hotfix required
To configure the new wireless network (LTUWireless2) an additional hotfix is required as well as the PEAP hotfix. Once installed, a reboot is required to complete the installation.
Intel Based Macintosh - Updates required
The Intel based Macintosh has an issue where it cannot get an IPAddress via DHCP within 802.1x wireless networks. To fix this error the Mac must have the latest updates from Apple which will rectify the issue.
