Airport transport options

Follow the information on this page to get from the airport to your campus when you arrive in Australia.

Transport - Melbourne (Bundoora) campus

You can reach La Trobe University, Melbourne campus, from the airport by:

Transport - City campus

You can reach La Trobe University, City Campus, from the airport by:

  • taxi (approximately 45 minute trip, A$75)
  • rideshare including: Uber, Sheba (all women rideshare) and Didi
  • a shuttle service such as the SkyBus from the airport to the Southern Cross Railway Station, then walk or catch a tram along Collins St towards Parliament Station, the campus is three blocks from Southern Cross Station
  • for public transport connections to La Trobe University, visit the Public Transport Victoria website

  • Southern Cross Station is the central station linking all metropolitan train lines and regional train services and is walking distance to anywhere in the city.
  • Southern Cross also links you to Melbourne’s tram network. You can see a map here. Southern Cross station is at C5 on the map. You can get the 86 to Bundoora campus or hop on the 96 going south and hit St. Kilda beach and the famous Luna Park, or anywhere in between.
  • If you have just arrived in Australia or are coming from one of our regional campuses you can get all over Melbourne with our train and tram network.
  • To travel on Melbourne’s public transport system (trains, trams and buses) you will need to buy a Myki card and keep it topped up with enough money for your next trip.

If your flight is landing at Avalon Airport, you have the following transport options to reach your destination.

  • Taxi/Uber (approximately 45-minute trip: around $75 by Uber)
    • a shuttle service such as the SkyBus from Avalon airport to the Southern  Cross Railway Station www.skybus.com.au
    • SkyBus meets each major flight at Avalon Airport.

Transport - Bendigo Campus

You can travel to Bendigo one of the following ways:

Flights operate daily Sydney and Bendigo (NOT from Melbourne)

  • For flight options visit the Qantas website
  • Once you have arrived at Bendigo Airport, you can ask the crew to book a taxi to take you to your accommodation or you can book an Uber.

If you arrive into Melbourne airport between 6:00am and 7:30pm then there is a dedicated shuttle bus departing Melbourne airport driving directly to Bendigo:

  • Book the Bendigo Shuttle from Melbourne airport to Bendigo city. This is a dedicated bus service that picks you up at Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport and drives you to Bendigo train station.
  • The travel time is approximately 2 hours.
  • Once you have arrived at Bendigo train station, there will be buses and taxis available.

If you arrive into Melbourne airport after 7:00pm, you can either book an airport hotel and travel to Bendigo the next day via the shuttle bus or travel to Southern Cross Station in Melbourne City by SkyBus and then onwards to Bendigo by train. For the SkyBus and Train option:

  • Book the SkyBus from Melbourne Airport to Southern Cross station. You can purchase your SkyBus ticket online or at the airport on arrival.
  • Travel time from Melbourne airport to Southern Cross station is approximately 30 minutes
  • Book an onward train journey from Southern Cross train station to Bendigo train station. You can purchase your Myki card and ticket to Bendigo on board the train.
  • Once you have arrived at Bendigo train station, there will be buses and taxis available. Please make sure you read the Bendigo Bus timetable while planning your journey.

Transport - other regional campuses and Sydney Campus

If you’re travelling to a regional campus and require temporary accommodation in Melbourne prior to your departure, please read our suggestions on arranging temporary accommodation.

Our Sydney Campus is only a short 20-minute trip from the airport. Your transport options to the Campus include:

  • The airport train, which will take you to the CBD. Travel time to the Circular Quay station is 21 minutes. For more information visit Airport Link.
  • Shuttle buses, taxis, Ubers and other transport options are available if you are travelling to areas where the train does not stop. Visit Sydney Airport website for more information.

Albury-Wodonga is located 3.5 hours by road from Melbourne Airport, 4 hours by train from the city, and 1 hour by plane. Many new students choose to book a connecting domestic flight from Tullamarine to Albury Wodonga.

  • Plane - book a flight directly from Melbourne Airport to Albury Airport (you will need to go to the domestic terminal). Webjet Flights lists all airlines flying into Albury.
  • Train – Take the Skybus from Melbourne Airport to Southern Cross Train Station and from there, take a VLine Train to Wodonga Station. Book your VLine tickets.

Mildura is a 6-hour drive from Melbourne Airport. Many new students choose to book a connecting domestic flight from Tullamarine to Mildura where you will be met by our staff.

  1. Plane – book a domestic flight to Mildura from your arrival point in Australia (you will need to go to the domestic terminal). Regional Express, Qantas airlines or Virgin Blue airlines fly to Mildura. It is important to book in advance.
  2. Train – Take the Skybus from Melbourne Airport to Southern Cross Train Station and from there, take a VLine Train/Bus to Mildura. Book your VLine tickets.

Shepparton is 2 hours from Melbourne by road. We recommend new students take the train.
