Got some free time and want to make it count? We offer a range of interesting community engagement opportunities for international students to get involved in the local community, gain skills and experience, network, get training and exposure to the Australian culture and community in action.

We offer on-campus and off-campus projects in a range of diverse and interesting fields from festivals and events, to working with the elderly, teenagers at risk, Victoria Police, and local community groups. No previous volunteering experience is necessary.

La Trobe International Student Services (Anna Jenkins) and Careers and Employability (Rob Vague) have developed a series of International Students Volunteering sessions in 2017.

The first session on Thursday 6 April 2017 was attended by over 100 students, and was aimed towards building international students’ motivation and readiness to undertake volunteer roles in Australia, the benefits of volunteering in terms of enhancing students' learning and cultural experience; building resilience and professional skills development; and developing employability, whilst valuing cultural exchange and reciprocity. A video recording of the presentation can be viewed here.
