Volunteer Hosts

Every semester International Student Services invites current La Trobe students to become hosts for new international students during the two-week Registration and Orientation period.

International Hosts help to create a vibrant host program that supports newly arrived international students and introduce them to new friends, La Trobe University and the city of Melbourne.

Hosts undertake one day of compulsory training and are allocated to a number of tasks during Orientation, such as:

  • campus tours
  • staffing the welcome desk
  • Amazing race
  • timetable assistance
  • accommodation information.

Hosting is a great way to make new friends, gain cross-cultural communication and leadership skills, and share your knowledge and experience. You get formally recognized for your contribution, by receiving a personal reference, and recognition certificate, as well as access to professional development training and volunteering opportunities. And it's great fun.

Recruitment for the Host Program takes place in October and August for the following Semester. Applications are advertised in both the La Trobe Times and the weekly Student Update. Subscribe to the La Trobe Times for updates. Both domestic and international students are encouraged to apply.
