La Trobe University student wanting to undertake a subject at another institution
- Download the Application for Cross Institutional Enrolment Outbound Form [PDF 1.97 MB].
- Print out the subject description of the subject you would like to study and take it to either your course coordinator for niche degrees or to the discipline coordinator if you are a Bachelor of Arts student to see if you have space in your degree to study the subject.
- If needed, gain approval in writing (this can include an email or memo) from the program.
- Provide the approval to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Student Administration Office. You may need to complete and bring with you the relevant cross institutional form from the other institution along with the La Trobe University cross institutional from.
- The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Student Administration Office staff will sign off on the application/s. You must submit both applications to the other institution and provide a confirmation of enrolment from the other institution to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Administration Office in order for your enrolment to be valid.
- Once you have completed the subject you must provide the Faculty with an official transcript so it can be credited to your La Trobe degree.

- You are normally able to undertake two subjects at each year level as a cross institutional enrolment at another university.
- La Trobe cannot provide the grade you achieved at the other university as the assessment and final marks are determined by that university and may be different from La Trobe’s grading schema. Therefore your grade will be recorded as a pass or fail only. You will need to use the transcript from the other university when you want to show your grades.
- You will have a Tuition Fee and Student Services and Amenities Fee liability for the subject from the teaching institution - so don’t forget to take your tax file number with you if you plan to defer your HECS.
- If you withdraw from the subject you must tell both institutions by their relevant census dates. Please note these dates may vary between different institutions.
