Academic Language and Learning

ALL
The Academic Language and Learning (ALL) unit works closely with teaching staff in all faculties and campuses to ensure that all La Trobe students – including those from non-English speaking backgrounds – develop high-level academic speaking, writing, reading, and numeracy skills required for successful learning in their courses.

The ALL unit staff provide the following services:

  • collaboration on course and subject design
  • advice on teaching and learning strategies
  • teaching/co-teaching special undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, tutorials and workshops
  • professional development for staff.

Undergraduate (Bachelor Degree) Students

The FHSS Survival Guide [PDF 4.68MB] is an online resource that will answer many of your questions about study.

Student learning advisors

The student learning advisors are current La Trobe students specially trained by the library and Academic Language and Learning Unit to assist students with various aspects of university study. You will find the student learning advisors in the library during Orientation Week. They will be on the first floor near the entrance on right hand side, wearing red t-shirts. They are available from 10 am to 4 pm during Orientation Week.

Ready4Uni Quiz

The Ready4Uni Quiz is not a test, but a pointer to what to expect when studying at uni. For each of 10 FAQs, there’s a written staff response, and a student response on film. Come see what our students think you should know about coping with uni!
