Faculty Human Ethics Guidelines and Application Forms

The FHEC will cease reviewing Ethics applications as of Monday 12 November and will recommence on Monday 28 January, 2013. Any applications received after the 12th will not be processed until 28 January.

Please note that Faculty Human Ethics applications can be submitted to the Secretary at any time and are considered by reviewers within 30 working days of receipt of application. Hence you should expect a response to your application within approximately 30 working days from submission of application.

Note that any requests by the Committee for further revisions or amendments will extend the time of receiving final approval for your application. Reviewers are entitled to 10-12 working days to consider any revisions/amendments required to be submitted by applicants. Once you receive written approval from the Secretary you can commence your project.

The Faculty Human Ethics Committee meets approximately every two months at which it further considers any applications that have been approved in the preceding two months. If further concerns are identified at this stage you can be asked to make alterations.

Please note that if you are an associate investigator on a project with an external Principal Investigator/s where the application has been submitted at another institution for approval, you are still required to submit a full copy of the ethics application from the other institution to the FHEC or HEC for consideration.

You should submit the original and one copy of your application to the Faculty of Health Sciences Reception. Please address your applications to the Secretary, Faculty Human Ethics Committee, Faculty of Health Sciences, Level 2, Health Sciences Building 2, La Trobe University, Bundoora, 3086.

Some applications may need to be considered by the University Human Ethics Committee instead of the Faculty Human Ethics Committee. Please refer to sections 6.2-6.3.3 of the Guidelines to determine to which Ethics Committee you should refer your application.

Note: If the FHEC believes your application should be considered by the University Human Ethics Committee, your applicaton will be forwarded to the University Human Ethics Committee and you will be notified accordingly.
