Faculty Human Ethics Guidelines and Application Forms
Please note that Faculty Human Ethics applications can be submitted to the Secretary at any time and are considered by reviewers within 30 working days of receipt of application. Hence you should expect a response to your application within approximately 30 working days from submission of application.Note that any requests by the Committee for further revisions or amendments will extend the time of receiving final approval for your application. Reviewers are entitled to 10-12 working days to consider any revisions/amendments required to be submitted by applicants. Once you receive written approval from the Chair you can commence your project.
The Faculty Human Ethics Committee meets approximately every two months at which it further considers any applications that have been approved in the preceding two months. If further concerns are identified at this stage you can be asked to make alterations.
La Trobe University accepts ethics approvals from other fully constituted and registered human ethics committees (HREC) when La Trobe researchers are involved. Guidelines and La Trobe University submission requirements for studies which have already received ethics approval from an external registered HREC can be located at Guidelines for Multi-Centre Research Involving La Trobe Staff and Students [PDF]
Completed low-risk applications forms are to be submitted to the Committee as an email attachment sent by the Chief Investigator. In the case of student research, the application must be submitted as an attachment to an email from the student’s supervisor.
Please ensure you use the current application form available at the Research Services web site.
Subsequent correspondence concerning the application (e.g. modifications, further information, progress reports etc.) must be submitted by the chief investigator/supervisor to fhechealth@latrobe.edu.au.
Applications must be submitted as one PDF document containing the Human Ethics Risk Assessment Checklist, Low Risk Application Form and any supporting documentation (e.g. Participant Information Statement, Consent Form, Withdrawal of Consent Form, other documents related to your project including advertisements, flyers, questionnaires, interview schedules etc.) View instructions on how to PDF multiple documents [DOC].
Please email all submissions to fhechealth@latrobe.edu.au
Please note hard copies of applications will no longer be accepted.
Some applications may need to be considered by the University Human Ethics Committee instead of the Faculty Human Ethics Committee. Please refer to sections 6.2-6.3.3 of the Guidelines to determine to which Ethics Committee you should refer your application.
Note: If the FHEC believes your application should be considered by the University Human Ethics Committee, you will be notified accordingly.
