Location and parking

The ceremony is held in the Union Hall, La Trobe University, Kingsbury Drive, Bundoora.

Parking is limited, so please car pool or take public transport if possible. Car parks 3 and 4 are nearest to the hall, otherwise use car parks 1, 2, 2a or 6.

Travelling by plane

If you are planning to fly to Melbourne to attend the ceremony you are advised to choose Melbourne (Tullamarine) airport as your destination. Please allow sufficient time to account for flight delays/luggage issues and traffic. Please note:

• Public Transport: There is no public transport from the airport direct to the University.You can take a bus into the city, then travel to Bundoora by bus or tram. Allow at least 2 hours travel time.
• Taxi: Allow at least 30 minutes (off-peak) or 1 hour in peak hour traffic.

8.00 am - 9.30 am	1.00 pm - 2.30 pm	From the gown room, 2nd level, Union building, collect your: seat number and name card from the registration table proceed through for academic dress. Leave handbags and other valuables with your guests during the ceremony Try to arrive earlier if you want professional photographs taken before the ceremony
9.30 am	2.30 pm	Doors to the Hall open. Guests should arrive early for best seating options.
9.50 am	2.50 pm	Graduands and guests must be seated by this time.
10.00 am	3.00 pm	The ceremony begins. Academic procession enters the hall All stand for the National Anthem Welcome from the Chancellor Guest speaker gives address Chancellor confers awards Dean presents graduates You: follow the usher’s directions stand and file forward to the stage hand your name card to the usher on stage The Dean: announces your name (and thesis title of doctoral graduates) doffs his or her trencher or bonnet to you. You: doff your trencher or bonnet to the Dean using the right hand (or nod if you are a Diplomate) move on and take your testamur from the Chancellor doff your trencher or bonnet in response to the Chancellor (or nod if you are a Diplomate) Leave the stage by the centre stairs and return to your seat.
11.30 am	4.30 pm	Academic procession leaves the hall You will: follow the procession from the hall go to the Odeon and Cafe for light refreshments.

  

Return of academic dress

You must return your academic dress by:

• 12.30 pm for the morning ceremony;
• 5.30 pm for the afternoon ceremony.

A late return fee of $30 per day applies.

Disabled guests and graduands

The venue is accessible to people using wheelchairs and walking frames or with problems climbing stairs. Ushers will be available to assist.

If you cannot attend

You must contact the Graduations Office if you cannot attend. You will graduate ‘in absentia’ or you can postpone your graduation.

To postpone, email or fax the Graduations Office up until the day before the ceremony. Please include your name, student ID and course name in the email or fax.

Photographers, framing, degree rings and plaques

All services are available in the main concourse of the Union Building until 15 minutes before the ceremony, and again after the ceremony.

Any candid photographers who offer to take your photograph outdoors on graduation day have not been arranged by the University. It is recommended that if you want professional photographs taken, you should choose from the photographers listed below.
