On the day of your graduation ceremony

Ceremony timetable

Morning (10am) ceremony Afternoon (3pm) ceremony Details
8.00am - 9.30am 1.00pm - 2.30pm

Register at the Gown Room for your seat number, name card and academic dress.

9.30am 2.30pm

Doors to the Hall open. Guests should arrive early for best seating options.

9.50am 2.50pm Graduands and guests must be seated by this time.
10.00am 3.00pm

The ceremony begins.

11.30am 4.30pm Academic procession and graduands leave the hall and go to the Eagle Bar and Bistro for light refreshments.

Return of academic dress

You must return your academic dress by:

  • 12:30 pm for the morning ceremony
  • 5:30 pm for the afternoon ceremony

A late return fee of $30 per day applies.

Special assistance for guests and graduands

The Union Hall and Union building is accessible. There are seats in the hall for those who require room for crutches, walking frames and floor space reserved for persons in wheelchairs or those with prams/pushers. Ushers will assist with seating.

    Photographers, framing, university rings and plaques

    All services are available in the main concourse of the Union Building until 15 minutes before the ceremony, and again after the ceremony.

    Any candid photographers who offer to take your photograph outdoors on graduation day have not been arranged by the University. It is recommended that if you want professional photographs taken, you should choose from the photographers listed below.

    Reed Graduations provides the following services:

    Dining

    Light refreshments are provided after the ceremony, however if you would like to organise a sit down meal you may consider The Eagle Bar and Bistro. Book for lunch on graduation day by calling (+61 3) 9479 1149.

    Location and parking

    The ceremony is held in the Union Hall, La Trobe University, Kingsbury Drive, Bundoora.

    The nearest car park is Car Park 3 which will be dedicated for graduands and their guests.

    If Car Park 3 is full, Traffic Management staff will direct you to the nearest available car park.

    Travelling by plane

    If you are planning to fly to Melbourne to attend the ceremony you are advised to choose Melbourne (Tullamarine) airport as your destination. Please allow sufficient time to account for flight delays/luggage issues and traffic. Please note:

    • Public Transport: There is no public transport from the airport direct to the University.You can take a bus into the city, then travel to Bundoora by bus or tram. Allow at least 3 hours travel time.
    • Taxi: Allow at least 30-45 minutes (off-peak) or 1-1.5 hours in peak hour traffic.
