Ceremony Dates

Location and parking

Bendigo Stadium, Marong Road, Bendigo. Free parking.

Ceremony timetable

  • Leave handbags and other valuables with your guests during the ceremony.
  • Try to arrive earlier to get your photographs before the ceremony
Morning ceremony (10.30 am) Afternoon ceremony (2.30 pm) Details
9.00 am 1.00 pm

From the gowning area within the Stadium (upper court), collect your:

  • seat number and name card from the registration table
  • academic dress.

Doors open for guests. They should arrive early because there is no seat allocation.

10.00 am 2.00 pm Go to the marshalling area (next to the gowning area) for a briefing.
10.15 am 2.15 pm Guests must be seated by this time.
10.30 am 2.30 pm

The ceremony begins.

  • You enter the hall
  • Academic procession enters the hall
  • All stand for the National Anthem
  • Welcome from the Chancellor
  • Guest speaker gives address
  • Chancellor confers awards
  • Dean presents graduates
  • You:
    • follow the usher’s directions
    • stand and file forward to the stage
    • hand your name card to the usher on stage
  • The Dean:
    • announces your name (and thesis title of doctoral graduates)
    • doffs his or her trencher or bonnet to you.
  • You:
    • doff your trencher or bonnet to the Dean using the right hand (or nod if you are a Diplomate)
    • move on and take your testamur from the Chancellor
    • doff your trencher or bonnet in response to the Chancellor (or nod if you are a Diplomate)
    • leave the stage by the far stairs and return to your seat.
12.00 pm 4.00 pm
  • Academic procession leaves the hall
  • You:
    • follow the procession from the hall
    • go to the function room next door for light refreshments.

Return of academic dress

You must return this on time or pay a late fee of $30 per day.

  • 12.30 pm for the morning ceremony
  • 5.00 pm for the afternoon ceremony

Disabled guests and graduands

The Centre is accessible to people using wheelchairs and walking frames or with problems climbing stairs. Ushers will help you.

Photographers, degree framing and plaques

Available in the Stadium from 10.00 am or 2.00 pm. They close 30 minutes before the ceremony and open again after the ceremony.

Any candid photographers who offer to take your photograph outdoors on graduation day have not been arranged by the University. It is recommended that if you want professional photographs taken, you should choose from the photographers listed below.

If you cannot attend

You must contact Student Administration. You will graduate 'in absentia' or you can postpone your graduation. To postpone, email or fax Student Administration up until the day before the ceremony.  Please include your name, Student ID and course name on the email or fax.
