Attending or in absentia
Attending the graduation ceremony
If you want to attend, tick the 'graduate in person' box on your Conferring of an Award form. The date, time and venue are listed on the form.
Graduating 'in absentia' (without attending a ceremony)
If you are unable or do not want to attend a ceremony you can graduate 'in absentia'. If you do this, you:
- cannot attend a ceremony at a later date
- do not have to pay a graduation fee.
We will send your degree certificate up to 4 weeks after the graduation ceremony. If you want to collect it in person, say this on the form or contact the Graduations Unit.
Deferring your graduation
You can defer:
- until next semester or next year
- to do your Honours year
- to continue postgraduate studies (e.g. grad diploma continuing with the masters course).
We will send you a new form at the relevant time.
You will not receive a degree certificate until you choose to attend a ceremony or graduate 'in absentia'.
